Stephen Levine
Associate Dean for Academic Programs
Stephen Levine, PhD
Stephen Levine has been teaching courses on U.S. cultural history for the Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies (BIS) since 2006. Leaving a tenured position at the University of Maine to come to Charlottesville, Levine found BIS students a revelation: “They bring a mix of personal and professional experiences to discussions that you just don’t encounter in the traditional classroom.”
In 2014, he was appointed the program’s first full-time faculty member and is currently associate dean for academic programs and associate professor. When not in the classroom or directing BIS, Stephen can be found performing blues music or farming.
